No group is more impressionable than children. They are like sponges soaking in everything: what they see on TV (the average child watches 28 hours of TV a week!); what they are learning in secular schools which no longer allow prayer, the Bible, or the study of creation; what they hear on the radio; what they watch in movies, etc. etc.
Children's hearts and minds are being shaped every minute of every day, and most of that shaping is being done by the culture and not by the church. In the battle for the hearts and minds of our children, it seems the culture is winning.
Such was the case in ancient Israel when God spoke in Ezekiel 22:30. To a faltering nation God said, "I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn't have to destroy the land, but I found no one."
What a tragic verse! God looked for someone to rebuild righteousness and stand in the gap for a generation, yet He found NO ONE! I hope today, as God's eyes scan this nation, that He sees you and your church ready to do what is necessary to rebuild the wall and stand in the gap for the coming generation.
